Description
We had recently aquired a piece of rough for cutting. After finishing it is 0.48ct in weight.
Elie garnets are one of the few sources of garnets in the UK clean enough to cut. They tend to be a bit overdark and fractured in larger sizes. This one was purchased at the recent Mineral and Rock show in Glasgow on March 14th-15th from a rock collector who had been hunting these elusive stones. Overall it is dark, but with a bright red flash due to the shallow crown.
It is a nice example of Elie garnet and is a large specimen for this locality. As a collectors stone this is a one off for a Scottish enthusiast
